Its this app that allows you to post videos to sounds. You can dance, vlog, talk, cook… literally whatever you want to do. Its super easy to “blow up” on Tik Tok today. TikTok has an algorithm to it, where it takes what you like, share, and watch the most and shows videos that are similar on your “for you page” (aka: FYP). For example, someone who watches a lot of cooking TikToks, and likes and shares a lot of that type of content will end up with a lot of cooking type content on their for you page. You can start to gain a following when your content ends being suggested to people by the algorithm.

Here’s some more examples of the different niche topics of TikToks that you can create content for:

  • Cooking
  • dancing
  • dogs/animals
  • sad issues
  • psychic readings
  • vlogs

“While there’s no magic recipe, coming to grips with the TikTok algorithm can help you work with it”

“The system recommends content by ranking videos based on a combination of factors — starting from interests you express as a new user and adjusting for things you indicate you’re not interested in, too.”

TikTok trends

The simple way to gain a following is posting frequently and also knowing the TikTok trends and using the hashtags that are trending. Here are a few to note:

Showing your outfit. There are countless TikToks out there right now of girls showing off their outfits because of NYFW. People are using #NewYorkFashionWeek and getting views or #fashionvlogger.

Know and performing popular dances. I couldn’t count how many new dances i’ve seen in the past week. A lot of people enjoy watching the dance videos and most recently was Alabama Rush TikToks, where all the sororities danced and got thousands and thousands of views. This is plain and simple, people enjoyed watching all them make these dances up and performing them, and putting in the max effort. This led to other schools sororities doing it also and this became and trending topic on TikTok which got so many people to follow and like. It’s not just about dancing, there’s sounds you can act out too, so if you can’t dance it’s okay, there always acting too you can do or cook or show your animals. People who see trendy content will give you a like and a follow because you are up to date and they like to watch what’s trending. This is why you see the same sounds on TikTok constantly.

Hashtags are meant for you to get more reach and end up on peoples for you page. Having a solid hashtag added to each TikTok will increase visibility on each TikTok you create. Here’s an example to get you started. You post an outfit each day, so your hashtags should be #ootd #fashion #outfitoftheday.

TikTok has a simple feature that is helping you to pick out the hashtags and this is how; when you are about to post your TikTok and making your caption, type # and then it will show all the #’s that are trending and there you go.

When people search up different hashtags, this makes your post deliverable for them to see. When thinking about what hashtag to use, think what audience am I trying to reach? Is it consistent with the theme of the video I created? What do you want the outcome of this video with this hashtag to create? This will create the audience and reach. Realistically if you are posting, fashion hauls and makeup videos, it may attract more females than males. So when you post your next tiktok think about the hashtags and how those may reach different audiences. ‘

Here are some Tik Tok hashtags to get you started on your next TikTok

  • #duet
  • #trending
  • #levelup
  • #featureme
  • #viralvideos
  • #repost

Consistency is key

You notice how people like Addison Rae and other Tik Tokers post everyday? That is a way to gain a following and also more likes. It’s not rocket science but the more you post, the more a following you will get because you are consistent and people (like me) like consistency when I follow someone on TikTok. The more you post, the more chances you will end up on peoples for you pages.

Darcy Mcqueen, posts constantly everyday about either going out videos, unboxing videos, things she finds on Amazon, etc. People love watching her videos because of how consistent she is posting and authentic her videos are. Consistency is helpful when you want to market yourself and your TikTok. To go a little deeper, I don’t just mean post the same content everyday, I mean take every step I talked about and make maybe a new TikTok each day with a different idea and also play around with different ideas or target audience to see which best fits you and the views you get. Also always add to drafts. This helps with being consistent. Say you are sick, and you are trying to post consistently, you can fall back to your drafts for something to post. This is what a trick I do to be consistent. Have content days, make a lot of TikToks and then save them in your drafts so you can keep going back to your drafts and pull from that.

Thats a wrap..

So now you know some how of ways to start to gain followers and an audience on your TikTok. Next time you post, first think of the types of videos you want to display on your TikTok, next think of the target audience. This could be females or males or people who love animals or people who love watching dances ext. Next: post, post, post. Consistency will be your best friend. The more videos you post, the more chances they will end up on someone’s for you page. Last but not least, HASHTAGS. Hashtags are also your best friend on TikTok. Think about if someone looks up #dance, you want you video coming up from just looking up that hashtag, so do not forget to add those in your captions. Be unique and be you and you will gain the attraction from just that!
